Frequently asked questions
01
Which brass deepam set should I choose for my pooja room?
+
For a medium pooja room or mandir shelf, a matched pair of 8–20 cm deepams like this one is a good fit: one lamp on each side of the deity. For a large hall or floor placement, choose a tall kuthu vilakku of 18 inches or more. For a small shelf, choose small agal or Kamakshi deepams of 3–5 inches.
02
How big is each deepam?
+
Each lamp is 8–20 cm tall and 7.5–11.5 cm wide, and the pair weighs 1.5–3.5 kg in total. As each piece is handmade, sizes vary; message us on WhatsApp for the exact height and weight of the pair in stock.
03
Can I light it every day?
+
Yes. Each lamp has a single wick slot, which keeps daily lighting and cleaning simple. Wipe the bowl after each use so oil residue does not darken the brass.
04
Which oil should I use?
+
Sesame oil (nallennai), ghee or any lamp oil works, with a cotton wick. Avoid mineral oils with strong additives, which can leave a sticky film.
05
How do I clean this brass deepam?
+
Brass slowly darkens with air and oil; this is natural, not a defect. Wipe the lamp with a soft dry cloth after it cools, and when it darkens, rub it gently with Pitambari powder or a paste of tamarind and a pinch of salt, using a soft toothbrush to reach into the carving. Rinse with plain water and dry it thoroughly straight away, as leftover moisture can leave dark spots in the grooves.
06
Is it a good gift for housewarming or weddings?
+
Yes. It comes as a matched pair, which suits gifting traditions, making it a meaningful gift for griha pravesam, weddings, Deepavali, Karthigai Deepam and seer varisai. It ships free across India.
